Geography and History at Felsted Primary school follow a split curriculum. This means each subject is taught for half a term at a time. This ensures the time is given to develop skills and understanding within each subject.

Geography
Geography is taught through topics based on the National Curriculum.
Geography teaches an understanding of places, the human and physical processes which shape them, and the people who live in them.
Through their work in Geography, children learn about their local area and compare their life in this area with that in other regions in the United Kingdom and the rest of the world.
They learn about the continents and oceans of the world as well as the countries and seas around the UK. Through their learning they will learn how to draw and interpret maps and develop their enquiry skills.
Through their growing knowledge and understanding of human geography, children gain an appreciation of life in other cultures.
Children should develop knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments and the interaction between people and places. In their geography learning they should learn about climate change, the impact of this on people and places and what can be done to help slow this down.
History
History is taught through topics based on the National Curriculum.
The aim of history teaching at Felsted Primary School is to stimulate the children’s interest and understanding about the life of people who lived in the past. The children gain an understanding of British history and that of the wider world. We teach children a sense of chronology, and through this they develop a sense of identity and a cultural understanding based on their historical heritage. This enables them to value their own and other people’s cultures. We teach children to understand how events in the past have influenced our lives today.
